What Kind of Sleeper Are You?

Posted March 3rd, 2008
  • Healthy, Lively Lark?
  • Sleep Savvy Seniors?
  • Dragging Duos?
  • Overworked, Overweight, and Over-Caffeinated?
  • Sleepless and Missin’ the Kissin?

Those are the categories from the National Sleep Foundation. Over the past year or two, I have transitioned from overworked and over-caffeinated to a more sleep savvy senior. But I’m still overweight! It takes longer to lose weight than it does to reduce work and caffeine.

The triple Os are employed, have the longest work week, and are least likely to work regular day shifts. That sounds like lots of people in companies with whom I consult. In the statistics, they make up 20%. This group averages about 5.2 hours of sleep per night. And the coffee pot is on 24 -7-365.

The big question, for today’s worker, is whether or not it is possible to be a healthy, lively lark. These people are in good health, get more sleep than they need, and rarely feel tired or fatigued. This is supposed to be 27% of the population. I don’t know many people like this, do you?
