Meeting the Challenge of Excellence – Chapter 1, Personal ReflectionPosted April 17th, 2007Personal Reflection
Four reasons why excellence matters have been suggested in this chapter. Excellence matters because we expect excellence when we purchase a good or service, stakeholders in businesses expect excellence, organizations communicate that excellence is the expectation, and we choose excellence because it is a meaningful choice that demonstrates maturity. When we decide that excellence matters, our daily performance will improve. We build good habits through our daily actions. Daily performance affects ongoing performance. Excellence in ongoing performance affects business plans and goals. The achievement of business goals fulfills strategies. This enables congruence with a vision, the mission, and company values. What we decide matters has an effect on all our days, months, and years. Organizations and individuals and teams that achieve excellence are able to see how daily performance is linked to their mission and values. The first step in meeting the challenge of excellence is understanding why excellence matters to you, your organization, and your organization’s customers and other stakeholders. On a scale of one (low) to ten (high), how well do you understand why excellence matters? I want, by understanding myself, to understand others. I want to be all that I am capable of becoming.
