Archive for June, 2005No Chores for BrionniBrionni was four and Brayden was about two. One night, some items had fallen on the floor. Brayden picked them up, doing a remarkably effective job of cleaning the area. John, their father, remarked that they were going to need to find some chores for Brayden. Brayden smiled at his father. Brionni perked up and said she wanted some chores too. Brionni does not want anyone to get something she doesn’t have. When her parents explained what chories were and what they required, Brionni said, “Oh, he can have those. I don’t want any chores!” Who wants chores? What is the value of chores? I notice there are lots of chore lists on the Internet that help parents teach their children about chores. I suppose it is fine for all of us to learn that we have to do ordinary tasks in order to keep the household or workplace in good shape. Just take it easy with Brionni, please.
